When I'm not telling stories around the campfire, I sometimes tell them here.
A park ranger on a megaphone growled at the surging crowd of pedestrians to stay out of the traffic lane.
I’ve been scouring the internet to see if there’s more info on this year’s firefall. One rogue cloud can ruin an otherwise perfect evening. I’d love to know how it goes, though! You can see it in the url I listed above. See more information below. Would love to see the photos from your trip! Maybe you’re in the background of one of my videos, ha. Fingers crossed for ya!Great Story, I have been chasing the Horsetail falls firefall effect for over a decade. There isn’t any snow pack on top of El Cap to feed Horsetail falls. Thanks for your support! (And there’s always next year for Firefall!) Experience the natural firefall at Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County. The next night, conditions again seemed perfect. You’ll see a ton of people with tripods clustered around those spots. Thanks for posting, and hope to see you there! I went in 2018, but no luck. Some years you get the shot other years it eludes capture. But a key ingredient may be missing: water. I will try my best to make it there on the 22nd . @jmdarterSadly I don’t think I’ll make it this year — I moved to Colorado and it’s a bit less convenient to get to Yosemite now.
HOWEVER, due to lower-than-usual snowpack, Horsetail Falls may not be flowing this year. As disappointed as we were, we were still As the sun slipped over the Sentinel, we walked back on the road towards Ruby Sue the Subaru. This year I am thinking about going somewhere that the crowds don’t go above the trees along the South wall.
I plan on going to see if I can capture it again.Interestingly enough, I think we were at the 2019 Firefall event on the same day. If Yosemite does not receive any more rain this month, there are still plenty of winter activities to keep you entertained. No spam, ever. When you shop via the following links, a small percentage supports Becky and Juno at no extra cost to you.
Thanks again for info!Unfortunately it is not looking good for this year. We weren’t the only ones power walking, jogging, or full-out As we waited for sunset, we befriended an older woman with a serious-looking camera setup. Sunsets at Yosemite's Horsetail Fall explode with fiery colors in February, if conditions are clear. The illuminated face of El Cap will still be beautiful, though, and Thanks, Alex!
It’s such a magical experience, but I guess the unpredictability makes catching it even more special! Thanks, Jeff!
Each year thousands of photographers visit Yosemite National Park in hopes of seeing the famous ”Fire Falls” event at Horsetail Falls.
The natural Yosemite firefall event at Horsetail Fall, draws hundreds of visitors each February as the setting sun lights falling water and turns it a molten orange. Awe-inspiring. In 2017 I was all set up when the clouds rolled in and everyone was holding their breath and looking at there watches the way you described. New rules were installed for 2020, particularly:Due to the popularity of the event, restrictions will be in effect from February 14 through 27, 2020 daily from noon to 7 pm. Looking forward to taking some photo friends up this year.Wow, that’s a great shot! One firefall to rule them all. I was there only for two days to try my luck at getting the shot, and the shot you have seems to have the same cloud formation as the shot I have! In 2018 there was a lottery system for parking spots close to the viewing spots.
Firefall/sunset wasn’t happening until 5:30, but signs at the entrance already proclaimed “FIREFALL PARKING FULL.” All roadside parking was closed. Finally, the third or fourth time we circled the Yosemite Falls parking lot, we saw a girl packing up her car. After much longer than 15 minutes, the group pulled out and we finally snagged our parking spot at 5:15. In 2020, peak Firefall at Yosemite should occur around February 19-22. As disappointing as it is when the clouds intercede at the last moment, I guess the unpredictability and rarity is part of what makes catching Firefall so special. I know for some, it’s been elusive. His love of the outdoors makes for frequent forays into the Californian wilds, where he delights in the stunning vistas of Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur, and the Pacific Coast. Yosemite is such a magical place, I hope you’re able to visit soon!I'm a writer roaming the wild, wild west with my dog, Juno. She's probably outside with her dog, Juno. In some years firefall happens several nights in a row, and in some particularly dry or cloudy years it doesn’t happen at all. The sun also needs to be close to the horizon to give off its orange light and thus turn the waterfall orange. Each year I calculate when this will happen and here’s the breakdown for 2020. Definitely worth a special trip. “There’s always next year,” we comforted each other.
